DesignBuildFly at MPSTME

About the Role

This role sits at the bridge between "what the competition asks of us" and "what we actually build." You'll take the mission statement and requirements and decompose them mathematically into concrete design decisions and trade-offs, the variable-level analysis that drives sizing, performance targets, and configuration choices. You'll work with mathematical software (provided) to model, analyse, and justify decisions quantitatively, giving the design and analysis teams the numbers they need to make good calls. If you like turning open-ended problems into structured analysis, this is the role.

Requirements

  • Strong mathematical ability and genuine interest in applied problem-solving.

  • Comfort with mathematical/analytical software is preferred (all required software is provided).

  • No specific prior tooling experience is compulsory for first-years — aptitude and rigour matter most.

About the Team

DesignBuildFly at MPSTME is a student-led aerospace design team founded in July 2025 at the Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering, Mumbai. We design, fabricate, and test radio-controlled aircraft to compete in the AIAA Design/Build/Fly competition, working to precise mission requirements against significantly larger and better-funded programmes. In our very first year we placed 20th in Round 1 of the 2025–26 competition, and our current challenge is a banner-towing bush plane built to execute charter-flight ground operations and aerial banner deployment. Our technical philosophy centres on advanced composites carbon-fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRP) for primary structures integrated with additive manufacturing to hit exceptional strength-to-weight ratios. Every member receives structured training in flight dynamics, stability analysis, and performance prediction, and we're expanding into CubeSats too. No prior experience is expected from first-years, we teach what you don't yet know. What matters is that you're curious, committed, and want to build real aircraft that fly.
